Piauí has the shortest coastline of any of the Brazilian states – the only state capital in the northeast to be located inland. In the southeast of the state, the National Park of Serra da Capivara is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which has more than 400 archaeological sites and the largest concentration of rock paintings in the world. This coastline has perfect conditions for an incredible downwind experience. Towards the end of this route we will stay in the National Park of Lençois Maranhenses, where we will kite in the world famous lagoons.

Day 2: Barra Grande – Rio Parnaíba > Casa Caboclo
Day 3: Rio Parnaíba – Poldros > Ilha dos Poldros
Day 4: Poldros – Tutoia > Jagatá
Day 5: Tutoia – Atins > Vila Guará
Day 6: Atins – Santo Amaro > Rancho das Dunas
Day 7: Check out Atins > Santo Amaro
This route takes in two of the most interesting states on the Brazilian Coastline: Piauí and Maranhão.
Piauí has the shortest coastline of any of the Brazilian states – the only state capital in the northeast to be located inland, which was first colonized inland and slowly expanded towards the ocean, rather than the other way around. In the southeast of the state, the National Park of Serra da Capivara is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which has more than 400 archaeological sites and the largest concentration of rock paintings in the world, in a landscape dominated by canyons and caatinga.
The Delta of Parnaiba, the largest delta system in the Americas filled with amazing wildlife and scenery, a natural spectacle, also with some of the best waves conditions on the whole coast.
At the end, we will stay inside of the National Park of Lencois Maranhenses with its amazing white dunes and where we will kite inside one of the world-famous freshwater lagoons.
Day 1 – Check in at Barra Grande – Pousada Titas
Welcome to Barra Gande! This charming and beautiful village breathes kitesurf, attracting visitors from all over the world.
We will have a welcome meeting in the afternoon at 3pm to meet each other and a warm up session to get to know the kiting conditions and test your equipment out front of the hotel. Amazing dinner at 7pm in the colorful village centre and sleep at the popular (Pousada Titas)
Please make sure all your bags including kite bags are tagged with your name on check in.
Day 2 – Barra Grande to Parnaíba River
We will meet for breakfast at 8:00am, and have a briefing around 9:00am. This will be done every day and is very important to share details of the route, specific risks or cautious areas and define stop in our strategic meeting points and check important points.
In the morning we will split our luggage into what will say with the car and what will come with us to the Island by boat, if there is something you will not need for the following day / night, please separate this as the logistics to the island are complicated.
Be prepared to experience the marvelous Delta do Parnaiba. It’s an amazing environment in one of the most beautiful places in Brazil. We stay the night at the native (Casa de Cobloco). It is truly unique, very remote and simply AMAZING. Here you get a taste of what it’s like to be right in the middle of the Delta, with rivers snaking through the dunes and wildlife everywhere. Dinner at 7h30pm.
Day 3 – Parnaíba River to Ilha dos Poldros
Time to explore the amazing delta do Parnaiba! We have a special experience in store today, kiting through a river system with towering dunes on one side and tropical jungle on the other. We return by boat through the delta, experiencing the amazing scenery and wildlife that makes this area unique.
The breathtaking private island hotel of Ilha dos Poldros will be our hotel, with a great dinner and nights rest.
Day 4 – Ilha dos Poldros to Tutóia (65kms)
Early morning breakfast and briefing as this is a big day! It is important to have your bags ready and in the entrance early as they will need to be taken to the port. We can take to the beach a selection of two kite sizes to choose once we are on the beach.
You will find amazing rivers, dunes, great waves until the river meet the sea and only you and your kite can pass through to the beach until the local and native Tutóia beach, which will connect kiters and support cars back in the simple little town. You will have an awesome night with the stars and dinner at the simple but comfortable (Pousada Jagatá)
Day 5 – Tutóia to Atins (70kms)
Early morning briefing and breakfast before leaving Tutóia. The next stretch has some amazing waves and tidal lagoons, passing the iscolated township of Arpoador.
Passing the wild beach and endless windmills of Barra Vermelha we approach the township of Atins on the doorstep of Lençois Maranhense. Atins is another truly unique and beautiful spot. Vila Guara makes for an incredible place to relax under the stars. Here we will have a great dinner at 7pm in the charming sandy streets of the village, overnight at (Vila Guará)
Day 6 – Atins to Lençóis Maranhenses
Downwind along the coast of the famous National Park of Lençóis Maranhenses
We will experience the amazing white dunes, with freshwater lagoons, a wonder of the world, and a great place to watch the sunset before our arrival at Rancho das Dunas, where we will have a final festive dinner and look back at our journey.
Day 7 – Check out Santo Amaro (Rancho das Dunas)
Final breakfast, Check out by noon.
