Frequently Asked Questions

1 - What are the requirements and how many people go?

Check levels on website, the requirement is that you dominate the sport besides having a good stamina to dominate the equipment. You can form your own group and booking dates available for sailing with your friends. The minimum is 6 people and maximum 10 people. Check availability by email!

2 - What are the dates for 2017?
Check the link "the dates" on the menu
3 - I have been kiting for 1 and a half years. I am a beginner and would like to know if there is a group for this level?

It depends how many times you kite per year and what you can do with it. For the beginner, we do not recommend long trips because it is quite rigorous, we indicate points throughout the cost of Brazil and it is a very long trip, which needs a certain level of fitness. But we high recommend the Light Jeri route, for who wants to practice more for the longest path, which you will do small km per day.

4 - What is the test the Day before the downwind?

To know how you kite, our Staff will analyse your kiting and will try to realise if you are capable or not to complete the whole journey.

5 - Do you have any trips for who just start the kite?

You can look up our e-group hotel partners, which are very well located to practice smaller downwinds and to prepare for the SSF. Find out on our website

6 - How to get to our hotels in Cumbuco and Jeri, and back from the Delta stretch that goes to Maranhão?

The transfers are not included in our package, from the airport to Taiba it will take 45 minutes, the cost being around R$250,00.

It takes about 4 hours to get from Fortaleza to Preá, for each journey it costs R$650.00 and it can be divided by 4 people. When we will be closer to the date (15 days approx.), we will organise the transfers for all of you, to possibly divide the costs.

There is another option: Fretcar, they have buses from the airport to Cumbuco, Preá or Jeri.

For the way back from the Delta or Iron Man we recommend a flight from São Luis. The transfer from Atins to São Luis takes 5 hours and costs around R$850.00: it includes 1.5h by boat by the Rio Preguiça which is amazing. Then the car from Barreirinhas to the airport, which can be divided by 6 people. Here it is worth extending the journey by a few days, so you can discover one of the worlds Wonders: the Lençõis Maranhenses, but beware, the water Lagoons can only be admired in between June to October.

7 - How does the luggage travel from hotel to hotel?

The 4x4 accompanying us will be taking the luggage. It will follow the group by the beach, with food and drinks throughout the whole journey, some parts the car will not be able to follow us so we will Just meet the driver a little further in the journey.

8 - Which are the hotels where we will be staying? Can i leave or arrive at any point of the journey?

Our hotels are located at the front of the beach and are chosen for their comfort and good service. We anticipate double rooms but some hotels have few rooms available, so you will then be divided between groups of three people.

Here is a list of hotels here we will be staying:

Cumbuco – Windtown/ Taiba – Vila Marola/ Guajirú – Vila Vagalume/ Icaraízinho – Villa Mango/ Arpoeiras – pousada Canoas/ Preá & Jeri Rancho do Peixe & Vila Kalango/ Camocim – Bangalô São José/ Barra Grande – BGK/ Coqueiros – Vila Itaqui/ Ilha dos Poldros – Delta/ Tutóia – Jagatá/ Atins - Oceano Atins.

Please feel free to look them up and have an idea of where we will be staying. If it is available you can enjoy the hotels before or after. For those enrolled in the SSF, we can offer extra days with a 10 % discount on stays in the charming hotels of Rancho do Peixe and Vila Kalango.

9 - Who are the captains, co-pilots and athletes?

The Captain is responsible for the group as a whole (outside and inside the water) he is the reference point and decides on the days of the program, coordinates the briefings, stands in front of group in the water and has the final say on necessary decisions. He makes the decisions related to sailing in general.

The Co- Pilot is our native guide that comes last, who will be closing and taking care of the group.

The professional athlete is chosen for more than just a support guide, he will in addition coach the participants who will evolve throughout the downwind .

10 - What kites are normally used and which ones to take?

We recommend kite sizes in between: 7-10 (this is according to the weight of the sailor and the wind intensity). Ideally take 02 kite sizes and 01 board.

Downwind with surfboard with Strap is always evolving, but twin tip will be a lot of fun too. You can also bring: many keels, bars, lines which are warmly welcome. Camel backpack is extremely important.

01 luggage for clothes, 02 kites, 02 boards (twin -tip and surfboard).

Sunscreen, long sleeve lycra, cap, sunglasses, GoPro.

11 - How do you guarantee safety?

Our captain and co-driver, are connoisseurs of the route prepared in terms of safety and first aid, selected by the SSF Staff. Together they decide if a person is capable of following the passages where the car does not follow or of staying the group. We have thought about everything and have a safety system that includes:

≈ Professional kitesurf guide (English/Portuguese/Spanish),

≈ Professional athlete supporting the group with the chosen captain.

≈ Programming and logistics from the coast,

≈ Available cars with drivers, who know the region very well,

≈ GPS & security systems able to contact the coast whilst at sea,

≈ SOS emergency phone to contact rescue if need be,

≈ Satellite telephone with connection to the coast driver.

12 - Is the food included?

Yes, we include:

Welcome drinks at arrival in every hotel.

Breakfast and dinner. The soft drinks, caipirinha and beer.

Sandwiches, fruits, water, Gatorades, ice, during the journey every day.

Other options of drink in the hotels are extras.

13 - What are the suggestions for people accompanying me?

14 - The rooms are doubles? Can I have a single?

Our package provides hotels with Double rooms, except for:

- Delta path in Ilha dos Poldros at Delta do Parnaíba or Oceano Atins in Maranhao (which are few bungalows, but with very interesting and comfortable concepts).

For single room we will have to check the availability in the hotels, as it is a period of high season, if there exists will have an increase in value.

Our chosen hotels are beach front and is always highly season, so the single room is only possible to reserve closer to the date if there is availability. We can´t ensure but will do everything to satisfy the needs.

In the Classic stretch we have a night in Arpoeiras at Canoas pousada, which is a simple guesthouse opposite the beach.

You will be very well looked after by staff who can not only prepare but also help you with your kiting skills.
